1990 - 1991 Professor
Ionel Chera, Ph. D., director of the distance education
programme of the University
of Bucharest meets with personalities from The Open
University – OU, among which Sir John Daniel,
the Rector of the Open University.
November 15, 1992 Open University and the University
of Bucharest sign a memorandum of understanding supported
by the Know How Fund (KHF) and the British Council,
in view of presenting the courses of the British
university in Romania.
February 1993 25 Romanians from throughout the country
are selected for the first The Open University Business
School course – the “Competitive Management” course
in English.
March 20, 1993 Inauguration ceremony of the distance
education project financed by the KHF. Among the
participants: professor Emil Constantinescu, rector
of the University of Bucharest, Klaus Hening, director
of the British Council, professor Brian Lund and
Arthur Lyttle, director of the OU for Romania.
November 15, 1993 The first 25 students of the OUBS
in Romania establish CODECS Centre for Open Distance
Education for a Civil Society aiming to promote,
implement and develop distance education in Romania.
The first series of 81 students begin the “Competitive
Management” course in Bucharest and in two
regional centres in Bistrita and Oradea
December 2, 1995 OU and CODECS sign a Master Agreement
through which CODECS becomes the exclusive partner
of the Open University in Romania.
March 1996 At the end of a development process begun
in 1993, CODECS completes its national network, reaching
a total of 10 regional centres.
February 1998 CODECS diversifies its product portfolio
by establishing the CODECS Publishing House, specialising
in business books and by offering training and consultancy
services.
October 1998 The number of CODECS students reaches
5,000.
November 12, 1998 CODECS celebrates five years from
its establishment, organizing a ceremony for awarding
the Professional Diplomas in Management.
May 1, 1999 First Romanian students enrolled n the
Strategy course, part of the international MBA programme
of The Open University Business School - OUBS.
November 21, 1999 Awarding ceremony for the Professional
Certificates in Management and the Professional Diplomas
in Management, within the MBA programme of the OUBS
May 1, 2000 CODECS introduces in Romania the second
programme of The Open University Computing for Commerce
and Industry Faculty, through the “Project
Management” course.
October 2000 The number of CODECS students reaches
7,000, which represents over 15,000 applications
to the MBA programme course modules.
November 21, 2000 Awarding ceremony for the Professional
Diplomas in Management, within the MBA programme
of the OUBS, event organized with the support of
the British Council. On this occasion, CODECS awards
for the first time the excellence prizes Best Investor
in People, Best Business Partner, Best Press Friend.
January 2001 CODECS begins the negotiations with
the Westminster University of Great Britain for the
implementation on the Romanian market of the pilot
programme Master of Arts in Human Resource Management.
March 2001 The CODECS Foundation for Leadership
is established and preparations begin for its first
project, “Third Millennium Leaders”,
an educational programme about the Leadership Art,
offered to high-school students in Romania
May 2001 The inauguration of the
CODECS headquarters in the presence of Mr. Neil Windy,
International
Regional Manager, The Open University Business School.
June 15, 2001 Awarding ceremony for the first diplomas
in Project Management - Computing for Commerce and
Industry, in the presence of Mr. David Butts, Vice-dean
of the Technology Faculty, acting director of CCI,
Ms. Kay Brumley, Ph. D., elected director of CCI
and Mr. Miles Shepherd, member of the Board of the
Project Management Association of Great Britain,
tutor of the first group of Romanian students.
September 27, 2001 Finalizing of the negotiations
with Westminster University; the last details for
the official launch of the pilot programme Master
of Arts in Human Resource Management are established,
and the launch will take place in 2002.
November 21, 2001 CODECS celebrates
the first graduates class of the MBA-OUBS programme.

the pilot phase of the “Third Millennium Leaders” Programme

May 9, 2002 CODECS lunches in Romania the Master
of Arts in Human Resource Management Programme of
the Westminster University of Great Britain. Ms.
Christine Porter, Chair of Human Resource Management,
Ms. Elizabeth Kennedy, module leader (Human Resource
Management) and Ms. Lisa Matthewman, module leader
(Organisational Analysis) from Westminster University
participated in the launching event.
May 24, 2002 Official launch
of the CODECS Club – the Professional Diploma
in Management and MBA alumni club. Special guest:
Mr. Alain Cardon,
director of the Metasysteme SARL International Consultancy
Company and ex- C.E.O. of Transformation S.A., consultant
and author of management studies. CODECS Publishing
House launches in Romania the volume "Jocurile
manipularii" (“Manipulation Games”),
signed by Mr. Alain Cardon.
September 2002 CODECS launches the new versions
of the Professional Certificate and Professional
Diploma in Management stages within the MBA-OBUS
programme. The academic content of the curricula
is improved and updated with theories and current
approaches of some case studies from the international
business environment.
November 20, 2002 CODECS and its
British partner - Open University Business School
organized the awarding
ceremony for the MBA Diplomas and the Professional
Diplomas in Management within the MBA programme of
The Open University Business School. During the ceremony,
the CODECS Excellence Awards went to: Best Investor
in People (Coca Cola HBC), Best Business Partner
(Billa Romania) and Best Press Friend (Capital).
Professor Allan Cochrane, Pro-rector of The Open
University and Ms. Anneke Fluitman-Meijer, External
Programmes Coordinator - The Open University Worldwide,
were present.
September 2003 CODECS launches the B713 Fundamentals
of Senior Management course that ensures direct access
to the MBA stage. The course contributes to the development
of necessary competencies and aptitudes for a Senior
Manager as well as the concepts and analytical aptitudes
necessary for dealing with organisational changes
at the strategic level.
November 4, 2003 CODECS
celebrated 10 years from its establishment. The ceremony
took place at
the National Opera House of Bucharest. The event
was attended, along with the CODECS employees and
founders, by 500 people: representatives of The Open
University, Great Britain, of partner organisations
in Central and Eastern Europe, of the British Embassy,
the British Council, of the partner companies that
trusted and invested in the development of their
employees through CODECS. During the ceremony, CODECS
awarded the prizes: BEST INVESTOR IN PEOPLE to ALCATEL
NETWORK SYSTEMS ROMANIA,
BEST BUSINESS PARTNER to KOBER, the excellence award
BEST PRESS FRIEND went to BUCHAREST BUSINESS WEEK
During the ceremony that celebrated 10 years from
the establishment of CODECS, the prizes Best Business
Support and Best Strategic Partner were awarded for
the first time, as a recognition of the way the CODECS
activity was supported from its very beginning.
CODECS awarded the prizes BEST BUSINESS SUPPORT:
BRISTISH COUNCIL and to the EMBASSY OF GREAT BRITAIN
AND NORTHERN IRELAND
The BEST STRATEGIC PARTENER prize went to The Open
University Business School, represented by Mr. Mike
Green, Professional Development Programme Director,
for the way it supported the CODECS activity throughout
the 10 years of cooperation.
A special prize was awarded to Professor Ionel Chera,
Ph. D., for his contribution to the establishment
and the implementation of distance learning in Romania.
November 20, 2003 CODECS and The Open University
Business School (OUBS) celebrate the new graduate
class of the MBA Programme. The diplomas were awarded
in a ceremony that took place at the Marriott Grand
Ballroom. On this occasion, the graduates from
the first stage of the Professional Diploma in
Management, within the MBA Programme of OUBS were
awarded their diplomas. Professor Geoff Peters,
Pro-rector of The Open University was present.
January 2004 CODECS companies
group has a new member organisation: Coaching Institute,
offering
leadership solutions meeting the needs of modern
organisations in a holistic manner.
April 2004 CODECS has a
new member Career
Solutions International, the subsidiary
in Romania
of the DBM American Corporation. The mission of Career
Solutions International Romania is to provide permanent
support in the preparation of the candidate for the
new job, starting with the date when the notification
interview takes place and until the signing of a
new work contract.
May 2004 CODECS launches the new
version of the Professional Diploma in Management
through the BZT700
Change and Performance Management course. The course
is addressed especially to middle managers and to
those in management positions in smaller organisations,
giving them the possibility to study the topics of
performance analysis, performance improvement and
project and change management.
November 20, 2004 CODECS and The Open University
Business School (OUBS) celebrate the new graduate
class of the MBA Programme. The diplomas were awarded
within a ceremony that took place at the Marriott

January 20, 2005 CODECS and the
University of Bucharest begin the project “Dialogues
for Performance”,
thus preparing tools that Romanian universities can
use for implementing quality management. The “Dialogues
for Performance” project is part of the “CALISRO – Quality
in Romanian Higher Education” programme, coordinated
by the University of Bucharest and financed by the
CALIST programme of the National Research, Development
and Innovation Plan.
March 9, 2005 CODECS launched the Excellence in
Leadership Awards, in recognition of the success
of women in the activity fields of CODECS. The awards
went to: BEST LEADERSHIP PRACTICE IN BUSINESS Ms.
Aneta Bogdan, Managing Partner Brandient, BEST LEADERSHIP
PRACTICE IN POLITICS Ms. Mona Musca, Minister of
Culture and Religious Affairs and BEST LEADERSHIP
PRACTICE IN PRESS Ms. Andreea Rosca, Editor-in-Chief,
Capital magazine, for the remarkable results obtained
in politics, business and press during 2004.
