The purpose of this course is to present a series of practical proceedings for improving the activities management efficiency (operations or business processes) that take place inside organizations, from both the production area and the service area.
The course touches essential elements of an organization, like: the set of base processes required for transforming the various types the organization’s resources (materials, financial resources and/or human resources) in results (finished products or services) that can create added value to both clients and stakeholders.
The improvement of these processes’ management and design holds a crucial interest for all organizations, public or private, big or small, production or services; the course handles organizations as being a set of business processes rather than functions, and insists on their inter-functional integration.

Main course objectives:


• To underline the importance of an efficient process and operations design inside the organizations, as well as the potential of obtaining a competitive advantage provided by the existence of an efficient operation management system.
• To examine the role of technology in the realization, through organizational processes, of added value for clients.
• To provide to the participants concepts, tools, techniques and models in order to create a critical analysis of an organization’s operations and the management of these operations
• To help the participants develop the necessary abilities and knowledge required for the design of efficient processes/operations at departamental or organizational level

After the completion of this course the participants will be able to:

• Identify the organization’s position in the value chain and to optimize the relation with the business partners
• Efficiently use various information sources relevant to the operations management field
• Understand the essential role of operations in supplying added value to stakeholders
• Analyze the organizational processes depending on their ability to provide added value to stakeholders
• Design and implement new processes at organizational level or to improve those that already exist
• Recognize and critically evaluate the opportunities offered by the utilization of an appropriate supporting technology
• Plan the actual introduction of new technologies and concepts

Who is the course addressing to:


The course is useful to the people that hold an operations manager position, as well as to those that aspire to such a managerial position.
Furthermore it is addressed to the managers or the execution personnel that work in other functional fields except operations, to business consultants and entrepreneurs that wish to improve their knowledge regarding to the increase of efficiency in business performance.

Learning methods:


Learning system "open learning" - the students will study the course materials, will debate on case studies during the meeting with the tutors and will write mandatory evaluation essays. Concurrently each student will be allocated to a tutor (counselor) which will help him to better understand the notions in the course material, will provide guidance, will evaluate and provide feedback to the essays written by the students. The tutor will be there for you throughout the whole 6 months.

Acquired knowledge evaluation:

The students will write 3 essays that they will send to the tutors for evaluation and feedback. The final course evaluation will consist of a 3-hour written exam.

In this course the concepts and principles are approached by using case studies from all economical sectors: public or private, big or small companies, companies involved in goods production or services. You will have the chance to apply everything you learn during this course in the company you’re working for.
