Lean Six Sigma Methodology Presentation

Curriculum

Course Content & Simulation

The theme is mainly approached by simulating a transactional process, the theoretical presentations being illustrated with immediate practical application. The simulated process includes the traditional roles in any organization, starting with the registry and moving through operational, commercial, marketing, accounting, and financial, with job descriptions and clients purchasing services.

The simulation takes place in several stages, starting from the baseline situation and gradually improving or completely redesigning the process, reaching a performance close to the maximum level, highlighting each time the link between the sigma level and the financial implications.

Main activities during the simulation:

  • Identifying the principles of the DMAIC approach and the Lean Six Sigma methodology, as well as its main basic tools, in accordance with ISO 13053-1/2011 and ISO 13053-2/2011 Standards and respecting the curriculum recommended by the International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC).
  • Defining basic concepts: Defect, Opportunity, Added Value, Waste.
  • Exemplifying and calculating process performance: Efficiency, Process Time, Intermediaries, Yield, Defects Per Million Opportunities, Sigma.
  • Teamwork.
  • Developing the process map allowing a common understanding of the process and its dysfunctions.
  • Lean Principles:
  • Continuous Improvement
  • The 5 basic principles
  • Value-added activities / Non-value-added activities
  • Pull versus Push
  • Wastes
  • Lean versus Six Sigma
  • Implementing the improvements proposed by the team to streamline the process, eliminate non-value-adding activities and minimize quality variation.
  • Highlighting the real improvements of the initial process performances as a result of "quick wins" and deeper improvements.
  • Calculating financial performance and highlighting the financial impact of increasing the process sigma level following the application of the methodology.
  • Highlighting, in each phase of the methodology, the most important tools used.
